No doubt many of you visit our English estates and
gardens, like Kensington Gardens and no doubt you are familiar with many
of our prestigious buildings such as Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court
Palace, Windsor Castle, The Tower of London and The Houses of
Parliament. Have you ever wondered just who produces those wonderful
spires, towers, domes, statues, cisterns and planters, well for just
over 25 years Stephen C Markham's leadwork has adorned these very
buildings and parks. Stephen has now used his skills and craftsmanship
to create an exciting collection of decorative leadwork, ideally suited
to the garden because of it's tolerance to the elements, where other
materials fail, lead only improves with age. You can often find lead
items many hundreds of years old, and could therefore consider your
Stephen C Markham purchase to be an investment and heirloom to be passed
through your family.
The Stephen C Markham Collection is a family business run by Jo and
Stephen Markham. We manufacture our entire collection at our rural
premises in Chittlehampton, Devon, where we also have a showroom. We exhibit
regularly at The Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show, The
Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and more recently The Tatton Park
Flower Show. Over the years we have received many prestigious awards for
craftsmanship and Stephen is recognised as one of the country's top
craftsmen in the practice of leadworking.

Each order is individually hand made, so while we endeavour to deliver
most of our products within four to six weeks, during the peak summer
season our delivery times are much increased, owing to the sheer volume
of orders on our books. We therefore do recommend ordering out of season
for a faster delivery time. Also, please read the very important
delivery information.
This site only shows a representative sample of the scope of our work
and we strongly recommend you order a copy of our current brochure. Throughout our brochure we give dimensions of our
products, these are to be used as a guideline only, as everything is
individually hand made there may be slight variations in exact
measurements.
Decorative leadwork is an unsung craft tradition, with it's origins in
the distant past. A hardly changing process of manufacture by hand,
using sheet lead, carved or aluminium mouldings and sand casting.
Similar but seldom identical designs and legends can be found in
numerous artefacts, large and small, from the Roman era to the twentieth
century, including Roman water tanks, Saxon caskets, twelfth century
fonts, papal bull seals, tokens from Tudor times to the present day and
decorative leadwork continues to be conserved by craftsmen like
Stephen Markham. |

Other services the Stephen C Markham Collection can offer are, complete
custom made products to your own designs, repairs to any kind of
leadwork, we also specialise in lead rainwater heads and down pipes,
